Hike Essex recently completed the last stage of their walks around the Essex Coast from Rainham to Manningtree. Covering 370 miles in 25 sections, it took the group just over 15 months to finish. Those that took part were pleasantly surprised by the general condition and routing of paths although, with the upcoming implementation of the Coastal Path, some effort will be needed to improve coastal access between Salcott and Mersea Island and also around the River Crouch from Canewdon to South Woodham Ferrers. The group now plans to complete a circuit of the county via its borders and hopefully finish back in Rainham by the end of the year.
